Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
