Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
