Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
